FAQs

Q. How durable are concrete countertops?
A. Once cured, concrete is extremely durable, but like any other material the edges and corners are the most susceptible to damage or chipping. You should be careful when working with pots, pans or other items. One of the greatest things about concrete is that if a chip does occur it can easily be repaired and due to the natural appearance of the concrete the repair does not detract from the appearance of the countertop.
Q. What are the advantages of Concrete over other materials like laminate, granite, marble or corian
A. Concrete offers a unique hand crafted, custom finish that is not possible with other materials. The colors, textures, and finishes are unique and each piece is an original. Concrete is also very durable, heat resistant, and timeless. Flexibility, durability, uniqueness are the reasons people are using more and more concrete in their homes.
Q. How much maintenance do concrete countertops require?
A. This is one of the biggest myths in the concrete countertop industry. Concrete countertops take no more maintenance than any other of the natural stone products. A ten minute waxing every couple months and maybe a reseal once a year. Both of which are as easy as cleaning a mirror in the living room. The waxing of concrete countertops is simple and quick process, we typically help customers with their first time, and we do the yearly re-seal when the time comes if our client requests it, part of the service we offer. We are enthusiastic about helping our clients enjoy their concrete countertops.
Q. What are my color choices with Concrete Countertops
A. Like anything cement based, your options are endless. Cement comes in either a white or gray base and can have color added into the mix. We use both gray and white based cements to obtain our colors. The color choice of the customer determines the base color used. We can do any color our customers ask for.
Q. Do concrete countertops crack?
A. If designed and installed correctly no. Concrete inherently may show surface legions, but these are not considered cracks. These are expected and desired in concrete as veining is in marble. These mislabeled "cracks" are actually the character the countertop carries within it. Each will age and cure out it's own unglue way, like art they are not repeatable. One of concrete countertops most desirable features is its uniqueness.
Q. Can I cut food on the countertop surface?
A. It is usually recommended that a cutting board or protective surface be used, if not for the countertop at least to protect your cutting blade edge.
Some countertops are sealed and a cut could damage the finish as well.
Q. How much do concrete countertops cost?
A. Most concrete countertops are custom made from scratch and can cost anywhere from $75 to $225 per square foot. Most of our work ranges from $75 to $100 per sq ft.
Q. What affects the price of a concrete countertop?
A. Size, Scope and Complexity of the countertop are the major factors that determine the price. Specialty edges, custom insets, embedded items, color selection, surface finish and other decorative elements that will require a more talented and skilled manufacturing process. Also shipping, delivery and installation play a role in the price. Just because we are based in California does not mean we do not offer our countertops to anyone in the United States. We enjoy the relationship we have with our clients and would prefer to do installations personally, so we travel where ever our countertops go.
Q. Are concrete countertop materials the same for interior and exterior use?
A. Yes. Concrete countertops have proven to be very resilient In the Bakersfield area where we see extreme summer heat. The only thing to consider with exterior countertops is that they are subject to the elements. Rain, hail, snow, freezing and sunlight. These factors should be put into consideration when planning and building an exterior grade concrete countertop. The only thing that may change from indoors to outdoors is the type of pigments used, some fade in the sun, and the type of sealer used.
